Witness Preparation Consulting
A truthful witness, prepared to be heard.
Honest testimony can still fall flat when a witness is nervous, lost in the process, or caught off guard. We help witnesses walk in calm, clear, and ready — always truthfully, and always under the direction of counsel.
Why It Matters
The truth still has to be delivered well.
Testifying is unnatural. The room is intimidating, the questions come from an adversary, and a witness who knows exactly what happened can still freeze, ramble, or get rattled into sounding uncertain about facts they’re sure of.
Preparation fixes that — not by changing what the witness says, but by making sure they understand the process, know the exhibits, and can tell their true account clearly and calmly when it counts.
In 25 years, I watched honest witnesses hurt good cases simply because no one prepared them for the room. Preparation lets the truth come through.
The Line We Don’t Cross
Preparation, never coaching.
Ethical witness preparation helps a witness tell the truth well. It never tells them what the truth should be. That line is absolute.
Preparation helps a witness
- Understand how testimony and the courtroom work
- Review their own prior statements and the exhibits
- Listen carefully and answer only what’s asked
- Stay calm, clear, and composed under questioning
- Tell their own truthful account in their own words
Preparation never does
- Tell a witness what to say or how to remember
- Script, rehearse, or change the substance of testimony
- Encourage shading, shaping, or hiding the truth
- Coach a witness to mislead the court

Always under the direction of counsel.
Witness preparation is consulting support that works under the direction of your licensed attorney, who remains responsible for the legal and ethical conduct of the case. ARH Consulting’s founder is a former trial lawyer, not your attorney, and does not provide legal advice or direct the substance of testimony. Our role is to help truthful witnesses be understood — never to influence what they say.

Frequently Asked Questions
Witness preparation, answered.
Do you tell witnesses what to say? +
No — never. That would be improper coaching. We help witnesses understand the process, review their own statements and the exhibits, and stay composed, so they can tell their own truthful account clearly. The substance is always theirs.
Is this done with our attorneys? +
Yes. Witness preparation works under the direction of your licensed counsel, who remains responsible for the legal and ethical conduct of the case. We provide preparation and organizational support.
Can you help a witness who’s very nervous? +
That’s a large part of the work. Much of what makes testimony go badly is nerves and unfamiliarity. We help witnesses know what to expect and stay calm, so anxiety doesn’t get mistaken for uncertainty.
Do you prepare witnesses for depositions too? +
Yes. Depositions are often a witness’s first time testifying, and preparation for the process and the exhibits is just as valuable there as at trial.
